Even though the food merchants left the Halles some fifty years ago, the district, overlooked by the imposing silhouette of Saint-Eustache's church, has retained much of its liveliness and charm. Its many restaurants and delicatessens perpetuate the memory of Zola's former "Belly of Paris".

One the capital's longest arteries, the 2.8-kilometer-long rue La Fayette links Boulevard Haussmann to Place de Stalingrad. The districts spreading on both sides along its course are rather untouristy. A perfect opportunity to discover a different Paris.
