"Leaving Bombay and its frenzy, I prepare to ride across India from coast to coast. Still dazzled by the Ellora caves I feel touched by the hospitality of the Buddhist converts at Dr Ambedkar’s guesthouse. This former minister of Nehru and the main writer of the Indian constitution, he sparked off mass conversions of untouchables to Buddhism, in his eyes the only decent way out for the pariahs of the Indian society.
