In the heart of Mauritanian Sahara, in a Dantesque scenery, the SNIM (Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière – National Industrial and Mining Corporation) extracts iron ore, a strategic income source for the country, the world’s 13th producer. The ore extracted from opencast mines is crushed, ground and enriched on the spot in factories permanently shrouded in a thick dust cloud, wrapped by the suffocating heat of the desert.
